Sunday Worship

9.30am — Morning Worship

  • Our weekly worship is 9.30 am every Sunday. Holy Communion is celebrated monthly.
  • We, as Methodists, enjoy a fairly free and informal approach to worship, but we aim to offer worship that is dignified and which is characterised by a sense of joy and thankfulness.
  • Sometimes, the Minister of our Church or another Minister from our group of churches will lead worship. At other times, a Lay Preacher or Accredited Worship Leader will be the leader. Other members of the congregation take part in various ways and all are encouraged to use their gifts for the glory of God.

Our Mission Statement

Epping Methodist Church is a committed, caring church who value our fellowship
and the opportunity to gather for worship.
Through our midweek meetings and Saturday coffee mornings,
we seek to engage with our community.
Through our Sunday morning worship, we seek to engage with God.
Our vision is to see the two aspects of our church life grow and become entwined.

Church History and Buildings

Epping Methodist Church was built in 1874. Prior to this, services had been held in a "tin tabernacle".

Our Victorian forefathers built the church with steep steps. We currently have a project in progress to provide ramped access and an accessible toilet in the church vestibule. These will greatly improve access to the Church building for the congregation and the wider community, and enable us to better comply with accessibility legislation.

The sanctuary was renovated and reordered in 2013. The pews and bare boards have been replaced with comfortable chairs and carpeting creating a warm and inviting space in which to pray and worship together.

Downstairs we have a large hall, a small hall, two toilets and a kitchen. We are in the process of updating the kitchen. Plans have been drawn up and providing we get the funding we hope to proceed with this shortly.

About the Methodist Church

The Methodist Church is one of the largest Christian churches serving Great Britain, with nearly 230,000 members and regular contact with over 512,000 people. It has 5,023 churches in Great Britain, and also maintains links with other Methodist churches with a worldwide total membership of over 80 million. Its activities, both alone and with ecumenical and secular partners, are based on four aims known as Our Calling:

  • To increase awareness of God's presence and to celebrate God's love
  • To help people to grow and learn as Christians through mutual support and care
  • To be a good neighbour to people in need and to challenge injustice
  • To make more followers of Jesus Christ.
