Pray As You Go -- A fantastic resource intended for people on the go, but equally great for people at home.
God of mercy, enable us to realize that even in misfortune and in trials you are very close to us. The ongoing violence disconcerts us and touches us deeply. We entrust to you the deceased priest at Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray, his family and the local Church of Rouen in mourning. In the face of hatred, we want to resist fear and return again and again to the wellsprings of peace, creating friendship and brotherhood around us .
Christ Jesus, often we are dismayed by the violence in the world. We entrust to you the victims in Munich and their families as they grieve. Give the consolation of the Holy Spirit to those who are in despair and help us to be witnesses of hope to those around us.
God of compassion, we entrust to you the victims of the attack in Nice and their families as they mourn. The violence and hate unleashed in the world dismay us. So we turn to you, who are close to every person even after their death. Help us to show by the lives we live that you are the God of peace.
God of Compassion,
hear the cries of the people of Syria.
Comfort those who suffer violence.
Console those who mourn the dead.
Give strength to Syria's neighbouring countries to welcome the refugees.
Convert the hearts of those who have taken up arms,
and protect those who are committed to peace.
God of hope,
inspire leaders to choose peace over violence
and to seek reconciliation with their enemies.
Inflame the Universal Church with compassion for the people of Syria,
and give us hope for a future built on justice for all.
We ask this through Jesus Christ,
the Prince of Peace and Light of the world.
Compassionate God and Father of all,
we are horrified at violence
in so many parts of the world.
It seems that none are safe, and some are terrified.
Hold back the hands that kill and maim;
turn around the hearts that hate.
Grant instead your strong Spirit of Peace —
peace that passes our understanding
but changes lives,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Send forth your wisdom, O Lord, to live in our hearts,
to work in our lives and to speak in our consciences;
that all our thoughts, words and actions
may conform to your will and reveal your glory;
through Christ our Lord.
Aelred of Rievaulx (1109-1167)
we praise you for your limitless love,
for the way that Jesus taught his disciples how to pray,
and for your Holy Spirit that inspires our prayers today.
Help us to be open to each sign of your grace.
Help us to be ready to spend time in your presence.
Guide and enrich our praying
as we journey ever more closely to you.
Lord, guide me in all the decisions I will face today,
large and small.
Help me to weigh the effects they will have on others;
grant me courage in those which are difficult
and I would rather avoid.
Give me time to think before I act.
In all that I say or think or do this day,
inspire me with your love and lead me into your truth.
